Import/ Export explores the Venezuelan immigrant experience through the lens of the pineapple: a tropical fruit that, under 18th and 19th-century Eurocentric frameworks, was transformed into the primary symbol of warmth, wealth, and hospitality.
While these South American fruits are welcomed into the domestic sphere as emblems of hospitality in American homes, the people from their place of origin increasingly face exclusion and dehumanization. Within this tension between the "welcome" and the "rejected" a space for alternative identities emerges.
